Six of J.S. Bach's fugues, from the Well-tempered Clavier, are paired with six of Auguste Klengel's canons, from his "48 Canons and Fugues" in arrangements, for viol trio. The canons are in strict counterpoint at various intervals, and function well as preludes for the fugues: Bach's own preludes are rarely suitable for viols. Challenging but satisfying to play.
