Young's works are known for their musical variety, bold harmonic turns and varying technical demands. In some places they have similarities with Matthew Locke's popular "Duos for two Basse Violls". He was a highly regarded viol player at the Innsbruck court from 1652 but many of his works have survived in British libraries.
