A French Baroque composer and music educator, Montéclair played the double bass in the Paris Opera, and was a composer of cantatas, serenades, instrumental concerts, a ballet and a dramatic opera – Jephté – in which he included passages for a five-part recorder ensemble.

Montéclair is best known today for his flute duets, and the Deuxième Concert for flute and bass. He wrote four separate treatises on music, published in pairs; one book for adults, the other for children.

The Peacock French Series is admirably edited by Andrew Robinson.

Montéclair’s treatise on French Baroque ornamentation Les Agréments (PAR102) is the perfect companion piece for his Airs de Danse. You can now buy the two pieces together for the special price of £20.00 (PAR1023) here.
